This is something a little new I’ll be doing here at the WWE Network Chronicle. Every week WWE Superstars is presented on the WWE Network. I am a fan and watch it religiously so why not share some thoughts and insight, especially for those who may not keep up with it and want to know what they’re missing, or conversely, those who do and want to see what others may think?
This week’s edition of Superstars follows the usual trend of having two matches. Additionally, it features the new usual pairing of Byron Saxton and Rich Brennan handling announcing duties. It should be interesting to see if they continue that going forward when Smackdown moves to USA and Mauro Ranallo comes in.
Goldust vs. Adam Rose
This is pretty exciting right away. Goldust on Superstars? Goldust only recently returning means we’ve seen very little from the legendary Bizarre One. Needless to say seeing him is a nice treat. I love when they call him the Benjamin Button of the WWE because it is such an accurate description. The last few runs of Goldust are so much better in terms of in-ring quality than anything he did in the WWE prior. And as usual he remains his entertaining self.
As for Adam Rose, I was a big critic of his. Even when people initially gravitated towards the character I simply did not like him. I thought his persona was forced, his in ring work was lacking, and his mic work was corny and not in a good way. But party pooper Adam Rose? I love it. He’s so obnoxious and annoying. I wouldn’t want a major push but I loved the idea of a tag push with Brad Maddox before the release and I love his role on Superstars and Main Event. Just so obnoxious and usually gets what’s coming to him.
The match itself was fun for what it is. It’s important to remember that not all matches are made the same. You need to take into account the presentation and what they’re supposed to be. If this was a random match on RAW, I’d probably appreciate it less. But a C/D/E show depending on how you categorize the shows with a fairly hot crowd to get the fans into the show? I dig it. It was pretty short, though, which Superstars usually avoids, but it was a fun time either way. Goldust picking up the win was the right move, especially since he seems to be getting into a feud with Tyler Breeze.
Winner: Goldust
As usual, the show went really heavy with recap. That is the biggest drawback of Superstars, although for some it may be seen as a perk if you don’t follow the main shows. I won’t recap the recap as that’d be excessive and unnecessary, but as always if you want a clue into what happened on RAW this past week, keep an eye on Superstars as they usually cover a few big moments. I will say though that this week they cover a lot of the Extreme Rules Eight Man from RAW and I have no problem seeing this again.
Fandango vs. Heath Slater
This is the kind of match that a lot of people wouldn’t see and as a result they may have no idea how much a guy like Fandango can actually go. He is quite fun as a babyface and his time on Superstars and Main Event is usually quite good and he tends to deliver. With Heath Slater as a foil, it’s easy to get behind him as well. Slater has so much personality and is quite a fun bumper, so he’s always a great comedic enhancement guy. He is the kind of performer that people don’t think about being important but means quite a bit to the company.
As for the match, I thought this was quite strong. I read someone say on reddit that it was one of the best Superstars matches all year and while I don’t know if I’d agree with that, I’d certainly say it is worth being considered. They had a decent amount of time to tell their story and two guys who may only get a few minutes on the main roster a month can really go when given the chance and that’s a huge plus to a show like this. The better these guys look here the more they mean when they do lose on the other brands. Fandango picked up the win and this match gets a big plus in my book.

That’s pretty much it! After that match ended we had our usual company commercials followed by a look at Roman Reigns’ big night on RAW to close out the show.

Closing Thoughts
This was a really solid episode. It certainly lacked something special to make it must see, and it’s honestly very rare that Superstars is must-see. However the show delivered big time. Goldust was a big name to have on the show and it’s nice to see such a talented legend, although I’d have liked to see more time given to the match. And the main was quite strong and may surprise people considering the talent involved. Superstars may not be must see, but it’s absolutely worth checking out and this week was a solid outing.
