One of the biggest criticisms the WWE and as a result, the WWE Network receives is over the PG rating. Fans from the past blame their issues with the program on the rating, believing it cripples the writing.
Of course, this can be debated as blood and cursing to a degree are both available within the PG rating. Instead the changes rarely reflect the actual television rating and instead are done for advertising reasons among other factors. With that being said, of course there is a difference between TV-PG, TV-14 and TV-MA for example.
So this leads to the question at hand, should we have more TV-14 and TV-MA programming on the WWE Network? On one hand, I think that the idea that wrestling needs profanity and adult material is shortsighted and shows a lack of creativity. However, as a Network intending to appeal to as many demographics as possible should have content that can appeal to as many people as possible.
We had Jerry Springer and Too Hot For TV on the service. That was certainly not an appropriate show for younger views. Additionally, we have Camp WWE which will also be for an adult audience. Should we have more? What would you like to see? Do you want less WWE PG and more ECW style content? Maybe a brand or wrestling show for a more “mature” audience?
