The WWE Network Collections section featured collections of different subjects. These are essentially playlists of whatever theme happens to be discussed. For example, the TLC Tag Teams Collection focuses on the feud between the Dudleys, the Hardys, and Edge and Christian. The WWE has stated new collections will be added to the service every month, with most likely not to be removed. The only real drawback for this series is a lack of an auto-play feature on the service, otherwise the collections have a lot of potential.
In the first part of my review for The Best of Swerved Season 1 collection I made sure to point out that this series isn’t for everybody and that is still the case. A lot of the humor is dumb or gross or childish and I know that isn’t funny to everybody. With that said, a lot of the first part of the review was really entertaining. Let’s see if it ends strong, shall we?
Family Business
This was a pretty amusing skit, mostly because Heath Slater and Fandango are such gold on this show. And they continued to be gold here. The Ascension are pretty entertaining side characters as well. In fact, most of the best acts on this show are the lesser stars. Go figure.
Anyway, this bit featured two actors pretending to be siblings who happened to be all over each other. This led to a bunch of chaos with Slater trying to intimidate the guy and whipped cream going into somebody’s face. Not an amazing bit, but definitely fun enough.
Meet and Greet
Meet and Greet came from the fourth episode of the season and it was one of my favorite segments. It was so awkward and uncomfortable, which makes it so fun. It clocks in at only about three and a half minutes, so its a quick watch but one I think everybody should give a shot to.
The idea behind this one is simple. A child and his parents won a prize and the prize is to meet Paige. Instead, Curtis Axel is doing the meet and greet. The kid and “parents” then make things as uncomfortable as possible for Axel while Paige tells the kid some things to say on the mic. This was tough to watch, but fantastic too.
Bad Baristas Pt. 1
This is probably my favorite thing in the entire series and in my eyes, this is what we need a lot more of in season 2. The “Impractical Jokers” style bit with people telling others what to do to innocent civilians is just so funny, and honestly they could make an entire side show out of stuff like this.
Here, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler is on the headset telling Heath Slater and Fandango what to do. This has the infamous “I said no dogs!” bit along with celebrating their “100th customer”. I love this so much and this alone makes the entire set worth watching.
Bad Baristas Pt. 2
This is a continuation of the prior part. This one saw Fandango go shirtless while arguing with Heath Slater over who can fire who. This is much shorter at only about a minute and a half, and truthfully should have been tagged onto the prior video. Fun and funny, but not worth all the clicking and loading required.
Furry Fury
I don’t get this one. It is perfectly fine for what it was on the show. Essentially filler in between bigger or longer bits in the fifth episode. It clocks in at only about a minute and a half and there isn’t much to sink your teeth into.
The Miz and Heath Slater wear animal costumes and run around doing dumb things, which isn’t laugh out loud funny but it may put a smile on your face. Still, with the ads and pre-clip rating screen, the wait to see the clip is almost as long as the clip itself.
Chocolate Diaper
This was just absurd and its one thing a lot of people may be turned off from the show by. The clip features Heath Slater, Konnor, Viktor, and Fandango eating lunch again, this time with a couple sitting next to them. The couple ends up sniffing baby poop before licking it. Slater is in on it and does the same.
It is kind of lame, and Fandango doesn’t really buy into it after a bit. So I can’t say I really enjoyed this one. At almost three minutes, it doesn’t take much time but you should probably still skip it.
Meet a Diva
Now this was great. Much like the Curtis Axel meet and greet, this was very similar but instead it has Alicia Fox meeting a boy and his “dad”. Rosa and Paige are in on it and help make things very uncomfortable when the fans want to meet Alicia, Rosa, and Paige outside of the show.
These pranks appeal to me more than most. I guess I’m just more into awkward comedy as opposed to gross comedy and most pranks. Anything that makes it awkward is usually amusing enough to me. Give this four minute clip a shot.
Fatherly Instincts
I didn’t like this one so I’ll keep it brief. The bit was a “pregnant” woman would get hurt in the gym causing Zack Ryder to freak out. Maybe I’m just being too sensitive, but I don’t find joking about a woman losing her baby to be funny. So yeah, skip this one.
Muscles Marinara
This last video comes from the 7th episode of Swerved, which served as the season finale. In retrospect, that sure is a short season, isn’t it? Anyway, it features Jeff Tremaine discussing bits and with a focus on Adam Rose and Rosa Mendes eating lunch.
At the building, an annoying fan listens in to their conversations and eventually keeps interrupting. Soon, he tells them he wants to be a wrestler named Muscles Marinara. And well.. as you can see by the picture, things get out of hand. This was okay, definitely not the worst in this collection but not the best either.
Closing Thoughts
So that wraps up The Best of Swerved Season 1 collection on the WWE Network. What did you think? Did you enjoy the clips? Were they really the best?
I think for the most part, they were. Sure, there is some hit or miss stuff here. Not everything appeals to me. But they definitely have some of my favorite skits in these two parts, especially Locked Out and Bar Baristas, as those were extremely fun. I hope Bar Baristas style skits continue into next season, as they give the show much more long term potential. Overall, this is a very basic but fun collection and one I’d recommend giving a shot to.
