Every week WWE Superstars is presented on the WWE Network, usually being added around 3 PM EST. I am a fan and watch the show religiously so why not share some thoughts and insight, especially for those who may not keep up with it and want to know what they’re missing, or conversely, those who do and want to see what others may think?
Superstars is back as always, and this time we have a fairly star studded show. At least by Superstars standards. Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Tyler Breeze, and Damien Sandow are all popular talents with Ziggler and Ryback in particular being bigger names compared to what we usually get, so it is exciting to see them. Rich Brennan and Byron Saxton are once again the commentators, as usual. So how was the show? Let’s take a look:
Damien Sandow vs. Ryback
I liked this quite a bit. Last week Ryback took on Fandango and even though I’m a fan of both, it just didn’t click for me. It didn’t help that the crowd was pretty quiet after Fandango’s entrance. This week, however, the crowd was definitely more interested in Ryback’s opponent, Damien Sandow.
Damien Sandow is such an underused and underrated talent. I think at this point most people would agree with that. It is quite disappointing how he is used despite always being over. All we can do is hope for a better spot for him in the future, I suppose. But seriously, can we use him in some role regularly, please?
Anyway, the story of the match was nice, with Sandow doing his best to gain momentum after Wrestlemania season ended and Ryback trying to regain his after his loss to Kalisto. The commentary team did a great job at putting both stories over, and it made the match more meaningful. Of course, Sandow lost, but he looked good in taking the L.
Winner: Ryback
After Ryback celebrates, we get a look at the recent parts of the Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn feud while also getting a look at the rest of the main event challengers scene composing of Cesaro, AJ Styles, Chris Jericho, and of course, Sami and Kevin. In particular, we get a long look at Sami Zayn and AJ Styles from RAW, which I thought was a fantastic TV match. It wasn’t the best Sami match this month, arguably not in the top two, but it was still quite good.
After that we had a look at the WWE Women’s Championship match from RAW with Charlotte and Natalya. This wasn’t bad, although I don’t buy Natalya winning and I feel like someone besides Charlotte should be champion. With that being said, this was fine and at the very least, I like when women get spotlight in recaps. Cool by me.
Finally, before the next match we had another look at the Colons vignettes. I saw people unsure if they were babyfaces or heels and all I can say is if you can’t tell, you’re not very good at understanding subtly or you just aren’t paying attention.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Tyler Breeze
Ugh. I keep on ranting about this and I will continue to. The use of Tyler Breeze is unbelievably frustrating. There is no shame in losing to Dolph Ziggler, but five months ago he debuted and beat Dolph at one of the biggest events of the year. Five months later and these two are going at it on Superstars, Breeze’s regular home.
Of course, as a fan of Superstars this is a nice treat either way. Getting a Dolph Ziggler match is a good thing, especially with a strong opponent and one given a good amount of time. And this match was really good. These two are very similar workers, and as a result their styles could either mesh well or clash, and sometimes I think it could still go either way, but they meshed well here.
This was a fun match with some hot near falls and Ziggler making Breeze look excellent. Needless to say, Ziggler won. And that isn’t the wrong decision at this stage. Its just a shame Breeze can’t get a shot on the big show because he is too good to let go to waste. Really good match here either way.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
After Ziggler celebrates, we get a look at the unlikely Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt alliance. Of course, it means nothing now that Bray is apparently injured. With that said, babyface Bray was a breath of fresh air and if he’s hurt as bad as reported, it is a real shame. That wraps up Superstars this week.

Closing Thoughts
This was actually a really good episode of Superstars. If you can look past the frustration with how some talents are booked, you have to enjoy an episode with these kinds of talents and names. Both matches were good, with the second being quite good and easily one of the best Superstars matches of the year thus far. This is definitely worth watching.
