Every week WWE Superstars is presented on the WWE Network, usually being added around 3 PM EST. I am a fan and watch the show religiously so why not share some thoughts and insight, especially for those who may not keep up with it and want to know what they’re missing, or conversely, those who do and want to see what others may think?
This week’s episode is a much bigger one in terms of star power, as we have the legendary Big Show. Additionally, we have the United States Champion Kalisto in action. Not a bad show on paper. As usual, Rich Brennan and Byron Saxton are on commentary and do quite well. Let’s get going!
2 vs. 1 Handicap Match
Big Show vs. The Social Outcasts (Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel, with Heath Slater)
While Big Show as a PPV and RAW regular may get old, a show like this is a great place for him on occasion. For one thing, he brings name value and intrigue. For another, it is just a different setting and he can have more fun. For example, an early spot had Bo and Axel trying to push Show back to the corner. Slater even ran in to help push, but of course Show would out power all three leading to a comical oversell followed by a Bo Train. How can you not have fun with that?
This didn’t overstay its welcome either. A few more antics occurred, along with a very short heat, but ultimately Show won with a double chokeslam. Show had a lot of fun here and did a bunch of Andre spots mixed in with other ridiculous nonsense, and I loved it. Really fun stuff and I want more of this Big Show on Main Event and Superstars.
Winner: Big Show
After Show celebrates, we get a look at the Ambrose Asylum on RAW. Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho, and Shane McMahon in the ring together is so fresh and exciting. I was quite down on the direction of the company pre-Mania, but with Triple H’s guys continuing to be called up, a refreshing babyface authority figure, and incredible talent being used in top spots (Cesaro, Ambrose, Owens, Zayn, AJ), I can’t speak highly enough about the direction. Let’s just hope it continues.
Afterwards we get a look at the Roman Reigns and AJ Styles feud, which has taken a turn with Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson getting involved. This is excellent as well. I’ve been quite critical of Reigns’ push, but this is closer to the route it should be going. I hope he goes full heel eventually, but for now, this works well for me.
Kalisto vs. Tyler Breeze
This was good. Really good. I mean, not that it should be unsurprising, but it was good. Both talents have a ton of potential. Kalisto, while given the US title, isn’t really being used the way he should be. With that being said, he was a lot of fun here and busted out some really cool offense including a really nice sequence avoiding a clothesline.
Meanwhile Tyler Breeze is the biggest waste going right now. A guy like Ambrose should be the guy and isn’t, but Breeze to be in the spot he is just.. its such a shame. And he brought it here. This match was fun with a few cool spots and even a 450 near fall. You can’t go wrong with this kind of action. The major flaw here was the lack of crowd heat, which with how both guys are presented, you can’t blame the crowd, but its still a shame. Kalisto wins with the S.D.S as you’d expect. To reiterate, this was quite good.
Winner: Kalisto
After Kalisto celebrates, we get a look at the Owens/Ambrose main event from RAW, which of course was quite good. And that wraps up this week’s episode of Superstars.

Closing Thoughts
Another great episode of Superstars. Big Show was in a great spot here and I’d love to see him used in this role more often. I’d also like to see him tag up with Neville when he’s back, as I think they could make for a fun duo. Of course, both Breeze and Kalisto are mishandled with Breeze in particular being horridly misused, but seeing them here is fun. Two weeks in a row Superstars has been killing it. I hope it continues.
