In a move that has been coming for some time, it appears the WWE Network is starting to crack down harder on sharing your account. Or at least, they seem to no longer be allowing people to stream from multiple devices at one time.
Update: While this did appear to have merit at the time of writing (as evidenced by Steve using his own tests as screenshots) it now seems that subscribers are no longer blocked from using multiple devices simultaneously on a single account (at least within the same IP). This wouldn’t be the first time that WWE have toyed with more strict limitations before seemingly backing off. It should also be noted that WWE have updated the service’s terms and conditions to specifically mention account sharing. An excerpt follows:
Access to WWE Network is subject to approval of your Payment Method information and verification of other information you submit to us or that is otherwise provided to us. Accordingly, if your payment (flat fee or monthly) cannot be processed for any reason, including because your Payment Method is no longer valid, we may terminate your access to the WWE Network immediately. Although your WWE Network subscription is accessible on a number of devices, your use is limited to one (1) WWE Network stream on one (1) device at any given time. IF YOU CIRCUMVENT OR ATTEMPT TO CIRCUMVENT ANY OF THE USE RESTRICTIONS IN THESE TERMS, YOUR SUBSCRIPTION WILL BE SUBJECT TO IMMEDIATE TERMINATION AND YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO LEGAL ACTION. SHARING OF LOGIN INFORMATION, INCLUDING PASSWORDS, IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.
Even if WWE aren’t stopping every case of account piggybacking, there’s seemingly no disputing that the issue is definitely on their radar.
Multiple users are now experiencing an error message when trying to access the WWE Network while already having it on with another device. The message is below:
STREAM LIMIT EXCEEDED
Our records indicate that multiple users are currently watching video on this account. Please stop playing on other devices to continue. Visit wwe.com/help for more information
I tested this myself and I too am getting the same message. In the past, some people have had issues when attempting to share accounts, but for the most part people went unaffected. It looks as though the company is finally cracking down on it. Whether or not they offer a deal like Netflix where you can stream from a second device for slightly more money a month is unknown, although I wouldn’t expect it until any kinks are worked out.
