In what could be potentially big news, PWInsider is reporting that the WWE Network is working on a new documentary series. It should be stressed that this is strictly a rumor at this stage. While it is certainly possible this turns out to be a show that lands, as of the release of this article there is no confirmation from WWE in any way.
With that being said, the show is something many fans have been looking for and waiting to see for quite some time. The title of the show, if legitimate, would be Behind The Curtain and the WWE Network documentary series would look at major stories and incidents in wrestling’s history. The examples given in the PWInsider article include Gorgeous George’s career, Ric Flair’s legendary plane crash where he was told he’d never wrestle again, and the murder of Bruiser Brody.
The latter, in particular, would be very controversial and certainly a topic that would get a lot of attention. Fans have been asking for more old school documentaries and a series like this could very well fit that bill. The question that I raise is, supposing this does happen, what becomes of WWE 24? Would WWE 24 remain as more of a modern documentary series while Behind The Curtain works as a more old school WWE Network documentary series? That could work, provided the presentation is different enough, which I’d assume it would be.

Personally, I could see this covering a lot of fun topics, although I could also easily see it going down the typical route and focusing on the Curtain Call, the Montreal Screwjob, etc. Not that they wouldn’t be well produced, but it seems like those topics are done to death. But the examples given definitely excite me and I hope this rumor turns out to be legitimate.
