Every week WWE Superstars is presented on the WWE Network, usually being added around 3 PM EST. I am a fan and watch the show religiously so why not share some thoughts and insight, especially for those who may not keep up with it and want to know what they’re missing, or conversely, those who do and want to see what others may think?
This week’s Superstars is the third from the brand extension era. It features a fairly big and exciting name with Sami Zayn, and it also sees the Superstars return of Jinder Mahal, who recently returned to the company. We have the usual commentary duo of Corey Graves and Tom Phillips. Let’s see how the show was:
Jack Swagger vs. Jinder Mahal
This was actually pretty decent. I know Jinder has a bad reputation, and possibly deservedly so, but he was pretty okay here. I won’t pretend he was stand out, but he was fine. Meanwhile, Jack Swagger continues to be the B-Show work horse. Much like Chris Masters and more recently, Zack Ryder, some guys just get into a groove on these shows and really deliver. Swagger is one of those guys.
Again, the match was only decent, but for what it was, I enjoyed it. Jack Swagger would win clean with the Patriot Lock, which is pretty amusing. Jinder has been hindered already. You would think he’d at least get a Superstars win in his first official week back right? Nope.
Winner: Jack Swagger
After Swagger celebrates we get a look at the bad segment on RAW with Lana, Rusev, and roman Reigns. I love Rusev and Lana, but it was bad before Roman got out there and became worse once he did. Yikes. This was followed up with the Orton/Lesnar video package, which despite my disinterest in Lesnar, I really liked. His sit-down interviews deliver.
Sami Zayn vs. Curtis Axel
“Its not about having great matches, its about winning” – Corey Graves. It is so refreshing to hear this. Nowadays, we get a little too caught up in the act of wrestling and forget how it should be presented. This was a nice comment that is probably missed by most, but something important to establish.
Anyway, Sami Zayn rules. Why he is on Superstars and likely not on Summerslam, I couldn’t tell you. Hopefully the company has something for him going forward, and they are just “saving” him, so to speak. It’ll be a shame if they don’t use him to his potential. The guy is such a good talent. Even here with Curtis Axel, he puts on a really good match. Not that Axel is incapable of quality in his own right, but Sami just delivers pretty much every time.
Needless to say, Sami Zayn won here. I think that was obvious going in. Still, the match was competitive and he made Axel look like a threat. In fact, he looked far better against Sami than he did against Neville last week. So whether that is Sami being too giving or something the producers decided is anyone’s guess. Sami wins after a Helluva Kick.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn celebrates his win, which is then followed by RAW recap including the Sasha Banks and Charlotte feud along with the Seth Rollins and Finn Balor feud. I thought RAW was a little weak this past Monday, but still, it was a decent enough show. That wraps up Superstars for this week.

Closing Thoughts
Well, this was a solid little show. The main event was a good match, with Sami really bringing it. He could have easily phoned it in, but instead he made Axel look strong even in defeat. The opener was fun enough too. A bit of a weird decision in having Jinder lose, but not one that is entirely surprising either. Good show, though.
