Holy Foley is just about here! The WWE Network original reality series starring the Foley Family is set to premiere on the WWE Network immediately following Summerslam at 11 PM EST. It gets better, though, as the first five episodes will be immediately available on demand. So get ready to binge watch and see the antics of the Foleys.
In the meantime, however, WWE Network News had a special early viewing of both the first and second episodes of the new series. As a result, it seemed like a mostly spoiler free review of each episode would be a great way to either hype people up for the series or to warn them to keep their expectations low, or even downright skip the show if necessary. So how is the series? Let’s take a look:
The first episode, titled The Bombshell, was all about introducing the key elements to the series moving forward. This means we had to be introduced to who the family is. This was primarily about Mick and Noelle Foley, however Mick’s wife Collette and his oldest son Dewey both had quite a bit of face time as well. And for the Frank the Clown critics, he was basically nonexistent in the first episode, though his presence was certainly felt.
Everybody who is reading this likely knows the major story of Holy Foley will be Noelle Foley attempting to become a WWE Superstar. The first episode is about Noelle attempting to drop that bombshell with her parents not expecting it, with the climax of the episode being her finally revealing her plans, along with something she’s been hiding.
Interestingly, Dewey Foley has a story of his own to tell. The man behind the legend of “Cane Dewey” is in a position where his parents are cracking down on him to get a job, and he just so happens to have a pretty big secret to reveal to his parents as well. However, things don’t go quite like either he nor Noelle would have hoped.
Other side stories in the first episode include Mick Foley’s obsession with Christmas and Santa, Noelle’s modeling career, Collette’s new hobby, and the general disdain for Frank the Clown shared by both Noelle’s parents and everybody else besides Noelle who knows of him on the entire planet. Some are more fleshed out than others, but I’m sure more will be touched on as the episodes progress.
So while there are a lot of pieces in play, everything came together fairly well. The editing and producing was well done, and obviously Mick and Noelle are very likable figures. Oh, and the theme and intro video of the show is excellent. Even if you don’t have interest in watching the series, you should at least watch the intro, it ruled.
Closing Thoughts
All in all, the first experience was a good one. No, this isn’t a series that will light the world on fire, but it isn’t supposed to be. Instead, it is a fun half an hour with the quirky but entertaining Foley family. If you’re a fan of Mick Foley, Noelle Foley, or reality shows in general, you will enjoy this. If you aren’t a reality show fan, give it a chance anyway. The good thing about the WWE Network is you can binge the episodes if you want, but if you don’t like it, hey, no harm done.
Personally, I thought it was quite entertaining and I give it a recommendation with the only hiccup being that the first episode is primarily used to introduce characters, so the heart of the stories aren’t yet explored. But you need to introduce the personalities so the stories resonate, so that’s a nonissue. Give this a chance, you’ll likely enjoy it.
