Take this story with a rather large handful of salt for now. On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alverez mentioned rumblings of a weekly Cruiserweight series on the WWE Network. This would reportedly be similar to the Cruiserweight Classic as far as featuring talents from all over the globe. However, Dave also admitted during the show that he’s heard nothing that points to anything other than vague discussion of the concept. With WWE including the show in their recent survey, it’s very likely that the company is just floating a basic idea out there to see how it’s received.
Of course, implementing such an idea would leave the future of Raw’s fledgling division up in the air. While Meltzer suggests Raw’s cruiserweights would also take part in the proposed series, it raises the question of whether cannibalising the division would be a good idea.
While this is all obviously still in the very early stages, what do you think of the idea of a standalone, weekly cruiserweight series? Do you think it would add value to your WWE Network subscription? Do you think it would water down an enjoyable in-ring product? Let us know in the comments section below!
