WWE NXT returns this week to the WWE Network with the continuation of the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament and brought a plethora of surprises along the way including the debut of a new group, and the return of a certain champion.
This week’s edition of WWE NXT kicked off with another match from the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team tournament and it was a Glorious opening to the show, unfortunately for the team of Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger, it wouldn’t last.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match.
Sanity vs. Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger
The team of Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger made their entrances first and it looked like this could be a team worth watching. The excitement was cut pretty short as the new group of Sanity made their WWE NXT debut, masks covering their faces until the two men competing removed them for all to see – they were Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton.
The other two members of the group remained masked until after the match which ended very quickly after Bobby Roode decided against competing after seeing the beating that was being delivered to his new tag team partner Tye Dillinger. This will clearly give Sanity that dominant feel that they need, and more than likely set up a Roode/Dillinger feud for TakeOver.
Sanity took the win in less than two minutes and after the match Dillinger was ruthlessly attacked as the final two members revealed themselves as Nikki Cross, and their leader Eric Young. The team certainly look like an interesting one and we hope it all works out.
Winners: Sanity
We’re presented with a backstage segment following this match with Billie Kay and Peyton Royce being interviewed as they poke fun at Liv Morgan’s attempt at taking on Asuka, and also at the way she talks and dresses. Billie mentions that tonight Liv will compete for longer than she did with Asuka and Kay will enjoy dishing out the beating.
Bobby Roode is also shown heading backstage following the match. He disrespects his now former tag team partner Tye Dillinger by calling him a loser and said that it was Tye who begged him to be his partner and that it’s all his fault because Roode isn’t a tag team wrestler.
Singles Match
Billie Kay w/ Peyton Royce vs. Liv Morgan
This definitely wasn’t an exciting match from either of these women. I’m a fan of them both but in all honesty, despite it not being a squash match, this match definitely wasn’t their best, though the action was back and forth.
I love the energy that Morgan presents but in the end here Kay was the dominant force after she took down Liv with a massive big boot to get the three for the win. This match was over in less than five minutes, and if this match was an audition to see who would challenge Asuka for the title, I’d be asking for a second match to see what they can deliver.
Winner: Billie Kay
Last week’s attack from Andrade Almas on Cedric Alexander was shown following their loss to The Revival in the Dusty Rhodes Classic Tournament.
Footage was shown of Almas after the match where he stated, (most of which was in Spanish) that he was the best and asked who Cedric Alexander really was.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match
TM61 vs. Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli
Moss and Sabbatelli come across as a very cocky new team and this is shown throughout the match which ultimately left TM61 in my opinion looking a lot weaker than they probably should have. The match was fairly solid however.
The match ends with Miller hitting a stalling suplex on Moss, the pin is broken up by Sabbatelli who then goes on to knock Thorne off the ring apron. Moss tags him into the match but Miller is able to get out of his grasp, Thorne is quickly tagged in, hits a running kick before nailing Thunder Valley to claim the win.
Winners: TM61
No Way Jose and Rich Swann vs. Tony Nese and Drew Gulak is advertised for next week’s episode of WWE NXT on the WWE Network, and now, it’s main event time.
Main Event – Singles Match
Blake vs. Murphy
The highlight of this match wasn’t the match itself, it was the aftermath. Sure, both these men put on a great match but when Murphy hits Blake with a hard elbow sending him to the outside, it was Samoa Joe’s arrival that things really began to get exciting.
Murphy ultimately wins the match via DQ in less than five minutes but Samoa Joe is just relentless with his attack, clearly he wants Nakamura, and he wants the title and he’s sticking to his word to William Regal that he’s not going to stop until he gets it.
The episode goes for a brief break and Joe is still standing in the ring, after a few moments Nakamura’s music hits and the Fullsail crowd goes crazy, they know exactly what’s about to go down, and we got a brawl like never before. Nakamura takes out Joe, and security and takes one out with the Kinshasa (kudos to Corey Graves for always giving this move the excitement it deserves).
It looks like the brawl is over, but Samoa Joe appears once again and the brawl continues, they make their way into the ring where Nakamura clocks him with a Kinshasa. Nakamura clearly isn’t as injured as Joe first thought and won’t go down without a fight.
