One of the biggest gripes fans and journalists alike have had with the WWE Network is how often they poorly advertise classic content. While it has improved with more WWE.com and social media focus, advertisements on TV are usually still lacking. However recently, they’ve begun to advertise it a bit more.
We noted before how they used Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rock videos to promote the large video-on-demand archives on the WWE Network, and this had since continued with two more video highlighting Ric Flair and D-Generation X. Then at No Mercy, they used their large amount of special events to draw subscribers which was then followed up with a John Cena themed ad.
On RAW, the WWE Network aired a new advertisement. This one didn’t focus on a specific Superstar, but instead it focused on stars of the 80’s. This included Andre The Giant, Jake Roberts, Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, and most notably, Hulk Hogan. Everyone by now knows of the Hulk Hogan incident that led to his removal from the company, but it seems like the company are slowly bringing him back into the spotlight. The big question this will lead to is: will we see more old school content to match this advertisement? Let us know what you think and what you want to see in the comments section.
What do you think of WWE’s new tactic to advertise the WWE Network? Do you appreciate more advertising? Do you think Superstar-specific advertisements is a good approach? Let us know in the comments section.
