WWE SmackDown is one of WWE’s premier weekly shows featuring some of the best WWE Superstars, plus some of the biggest storylines going into the PLE’s and has been running since 1999. The Championships featured the Undisputed WWE Championship, WWE (Men’s) United States, WWE Tag Team, WWE Women’s and the WWE Women’s United States Championships, plus the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships from time to time. Although this show originally airs on traditional television (and still does in some key markets), live airings moved to Netflix for the majority of the world, hence why we started to cover Raw, SmackDown and NXT from January onwards. Our results are quick and to the point and by no means a comprehensive blow-by-blow account of the given episode. Check back weekly for results and be sure to share your thoughts on the program down below.
This episode, although not officially announced, did stream as a test on Netflix alongside YouTube in certain international territories such as Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands. Because of that, we will start coverage of the main shows in a starting capacity as long as those test streams happen. Call it a soft launch if you will. As Raw will have a test stream on 12/30 in those territories as well, consider coverage of Raw and SmackDown to start now instead of from 1/1 or 1/6 onwards. The status for 1/3 SmackDown is doubtful in terms of international broadcast as there’s no Netflix stream page available as of this writing, but I might continue to write regardless as coverage was originally slated to start on 1/1.
WWE SmackDown Results
Below are the latest WWE SmackDown results for 12/27/24:
- WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair, Naomi and Bayley defeated Candice LeRae, WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax and Ms. MITB Tiffany Stratton by pinfall.
- Braun Strowman defeated Austin Theory by pinfall.
- Street Profits defeated LDF’s Berto and Garza by pinfall.
- Raw’s Sami Zayn defeated Carmelo Hayes by disqualification due to Bloodline attacking Zayn. Strowman saved Zayn after the attack and fended off most of the Bloodline, but they regained the upper hand thanks to a distraction by Solo Sikoa until referees and GM Nick Aldis came in to regain order.
Non-match notes relevant to WWE SmackDown for 12/27/24:
- This episode, although not officially announced, did stream as a test on Netflix alongside YouTube in certain international territories such as Spain, Brazil and the Netherlands.
- Most of the Netflix pre-show breakfiller involved older crowd shots, but when the last three minutes started, a highlight package of SmackDown Superstars replaced the crowd shots.
- Apollo Crews defeated Grayson Waller in the pre-show dark match while Natalya vs Michin got taped for Speed on X.
- SmackDown General Manager gave Kevin Owens until the end of the night to give the Winged Eagle back to WWE or he will suffer consequences for his contract.
- Cathy Kelly interviewed WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair and Naomi about Jade Cargill and their six-woman tag with Bayley, with which she joined in before making their entrance.
- WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax denied attacking Jade Cargill on behalf of herself and her stablemates and accused Bianca of doing it herself.
- Tiffany Stratton teased a cash-in during the six-woman tag match, but Candice stopped her from cashing in.
- A-Town Down gave GM Nick Aldis an invoice for the Grayson Waller Effect, but rejected the bid and asked Austin to get ready for his match. Sami Zayn then came in for a talk with Aldis and asked for a crack at the Bloodline, but Carmelo Hayes interrupted that conversation to give Christmas cards, to which Zayn challenged Hayes to a match later in the night.
- Kevin Owens talked from his car, called himself the “true, rightful” WWE Champion and says he’ll enter the arena and talk with Aldis in the ring on his terms
- The University of Michigan football team were seen in the crowd.
- Chelsea Green celebrated her WWE Women’s United States Championship win with Piper Niven with a Presidential theme. She thanked herself and ran down Michin before Michin came in with a cane and whacked Piper while going into the ring to go for the champion, but the champion escaped.
- WWE Tag Team Champions DIY were questioned about their attack on the Street Profits, they denied the attack, but Pretty Deadly were brought in to apparently rat DIY out, but they backed out at the last minute and accused Garza of the attack, resulting in the Profits attacking Garza and Berto. GM Aldis made the match between the Profits and Legado.
- LDF vs Street Profits joined in progress instead of starting off when the feed returned.
- Andrade called WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura disrespectful and announced he’ll go for the US Title in a vignette.
- Hard Ice Tea Twisted Tea sponsored the main event of Carmelo Hayes vs Raw’s Sami Zayn.
- Pretty Deadly and DIY talked backstage to imply to ask for a tag title match, but DIY didn’t catch the hint and promised to look after PD. The Profits then thanked PD for telling it was Garza, whereafter MCMG told the Profits that they have to be back at the line for a tag title shot. Apollo Crews then came in between the Profits and MCMG to tell them that DIY attacked the Profits instead of Garza.
- Carmelo Hayes originally teased to go for a count-out loss, but Braun Strowman came in to get Hayes back in the ring. However, the Bloodline already attacked Zayn before Strowwman got the chance to get him back.
- Right as Nick Aldis cleaned house, Kevin Owens came in with the Winged Eagle Title to confront the general manager. Owens refused to give the Winged Eagl title because he won’t get a rematch against Cody if he relinquished. Aldis explained that Owens will get fired if he didn’t hand the belt over, but Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes came in before Owens could reply. Aldis asked Rhodes to walk away, but Rhodes refused. He then said that he wanted to defend his title against Owens in a type of match where the referee couldn’t stop him, which is a ladder match for both the Undisputed WWE Championship and the Winged Eagle belt. Nick Aldis then made that ladder match for the Royal Rumble. Owens accepted the offer and offered to shake Cody’s hand, but the champ refused, which led to him pushing Aldis into Rhodes and stomping him on his neck to end the show.
- SDLD notes airing thereafter:
- Sam Roberts replaced Scott Stanford on the panel.
- Cathy Kelley interviewed Michin about her disruption of Chelsea Green’s celebration.
- Street Profits were interviewed about the revelation that DIY attacked them and said that DIY’s day is coming eventually because the champs didn’t finish the job.
- Carmelo Hayes got interviewed about where he’s going in 2025 and promised to keep taking shots in the new year.
- The hosts didn’t announce what would happen with SmackDown LowDown with SmackDown’s move to three hours. Either the broadcast will move to 11:05 PM EST/4:05 AM GMT or SDLD will be discontinued (either partly like Raw Talk did for the international WWE Network or entirely).
- Bianca Belair and Raw’s Dakota Kai defeated Raw’s/PFC’s Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark plus Raw’s Jey Uso defeated Raw’s/American Made’s Chad Gable in the post-show dark matches.
